No Subsidy On Tata Nexon EV In Delhi – Here’s Why

The Delhi Government has cancelled the subsidy for the electric version of the Tata Nexon. The Tata Nexon EV won’t be eligible for subsidy scheme for EVs following complaints that the model failed to meet the specified range on a single charge.

Delhi Transport minister Kailash Gahlot said that several customers had complained of “sub-standard” driving range offered by the Nexon electric vehicle (EV). In a tweet, Gahlot confirmed that “the Delhi Government has decided to suspend subsidy on a EV car model, pending final report of a Committee”. He further said that the Government is committed to support EVs, but not at the cost of trust & confidence of citizens in claims by manufacturers.

We reported earlier that the Delhi Transport department has issued a show-cause notice to Tata Motors over the complaint filed by Tata Nexon EV owner. The DTD is seeking Tata’s reply on complaint that one of its electric car models failed to meet the specified range on a single charge.

One of the Tata Nexon EV owner claims that his SUV has never provided a range of more than 200km. The Nexon electric is claimed to offer a range of 312km (ARAI certified) on a single charge.

For people not in the know, Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) policy is giving a purchase incentive of Rs 10,000 per kWh battery capacity on buying an electric four wheeler with a cap of Rs 1.5 lakh per vehicle. The owners of the first 1,000 e-cars in Delhi will be eligible for the incentive.

Tata Nexon EV Variants

Tata Motors official spokesperson said that the 312km range for Nexon EV is certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), which is the official body that independently tests all mass-produced vehicles under standard test conditions. The actual range achieved in EVs depends on various factors like usage of AC, driving style and the actual conditions in which the vehicle is driven.

Tata Nexon EV Price & Specs

The Nexon EV is available at a starting price of Rs 13.99 lakh, which goes up to Rs 16.39 lakh. The SUV is equipped with a 30.2kWh lithium-ion batery and Tata’s Ziptron technology. It is capable of producing 129PS of power and 245Nm of torque. The battery takes 8.5 hours to charge from zero to 90%. Using fast charger, the battery can be charged up to 80% in just 1 hour.
