Nitin Gadkari To Unveil Toyota Camry Flex Fuel Prototype On August 29

Japanese automaker, Toyota will unveil a prototype of the BS6 Phase 2-compliant flex fuel hybrid prototype on August 29. The new model is most likely to be the Toyota Camry Flex Fuel Prototype. This flex fuel prototype will be unveiled in the presence of Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways.

In a recent press conference, Nirin Gadkari confirmed that the it will be introducing a flex fuel-based Toyota car on August 29. He further said that the new Toyota model will run on 100% bioethanol fuel, which is used to generate 40% electricity for its strong hybrid system. The ethanol currently priced at Rs 60 per litre and the new flex fuel model can return a fuel efficiency of around 15 to 20kmpl, which makes it significantly affordable than petrol costing around 110 per litre.

The exact technical details will be revealed on August 29. In early 2022, Nitin Gadkari introduced Toyota’s flex-fuel pilot project. At the same time, the company had showcased the Corolla hybrid vehicle. Not Just Toyota, Maruti Suzuki is also working on flex-fuel vehicles. The company had showcased the WagonR Flex fuel vehicle which is capable of running on 85 percent ethanol blend.

The flex-fuel powetrains offer less fuel economy compared to the petrol. The ethanol has lower energy control; however, it has higher octane number that helps in better acceleration performance. India is currently blending 11.6 percent ethanol with gasoline. The aim to reach target of 20% ethanol blending by 2025.
