Mahindra has recently showcased the 5-door Thar electric concept at an event in South Africa. Chairperson of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra has confirmed that the Thar EV will enter into production. Not just the EV, Mahindra is also developing a more practical Thar 5-door lifestyle SUV. This SUV has received minor design changes and a revised interior with several new features. The SUV is scheduled to be launched sometime in 2024.
The new Mahindra Thar 5-door will target SUV buyers looking for a practical vehicle that can be used for daily travel as well as for off-roading. Not just bigger dimensions, the new LWB Thar will come loaded with several new comfort and convenience features.
Previous spy images reveal that the Mahindra Thar 5-door will come with a factory-fitted single-pane sunroof. For passengers comfort, the SUV will get front and rear centre armrests. It will also come equipped with a bigger touchscreen infotainment unit with better interface. The 3-door model comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen, while the 5-door lifestyle SUV will be fitted with a larger (approx 10-inch) touchscreen infotainment screen. The recent spy images reveal that the SUV will have a new centre console design with a free-standing touch unit.
The updated touchscreen infotainment system will be benefitted with Mahindra’s AdrenoX software. The SUV will get sunglass holder, multiple storage spaces, roof-mounted speakers, a coloured multi-info display in the instrument console, multi-functional steering wheel, power adjustable ORVMs, cruise control, etc. Previous reports claim that the SUV will come with multiple seating options.
The new Mahindra Thar 5-door is expected to share the petrol and diesel engine options with the new Scorpio N. The engine options will include a 2.0L turbo petrol and a 2.2L turbo diesel. While powering the Scorpio N, the turbo petrol engine is capable of producing 200bhp of power at 5,000rpm and a peak torque of 370-380Nm. The turbo-diesel engine offers two states of tunes – 172bhp & 370Nm with MT & 400Nm with AT, and a 130bhp and 300Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
