Next-Gen Suzuki Alto Coming By Year End: New Engine, Design

While auto manufacturers are introducing SUVs, Maruti Suzuki is still banking on hatchbacks and small cars to maintain the pole position. The company is gearing up for the launch of the new generation Celerio, which has been caught testing multiple times. Suzuki is also working on the next-gen Swift, Baleno and the Alto for the Indian as well as global markets. A new media report claims that Suzuki will launch the next-gen Alto entry-level car before the end of this year.

Suzuki is also reportedly working on a more sophisticated version of the new Alto, which will be called the new Suzuki Alto Works. The new model is reportedly to arrive in 2022. Japanese media claims that the new Suzuki Alto will be based on the evolved version of the lightweight HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Wagon R and the S-Presso.

The Japanese-spec model will share the engine specs with the new Hustler. The Hustler is available with two engine options – a 660cc naturally-aspirated petrol producing 49bhp, and a 660cc turbocharged engine that is good for 64bhp. The engine will feature Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid tech that helps with fuel savings. The turbo version will power the Suzuki Alto Works.

Thanks to the new lightweight platform, the new-gen Suzuki Alto will be lighter than the existing model and will offer improved power to weight ratio. The report further claims that the new Suzuki Alto Works will measure around 3395mm in length, 1475mm in width and 1500mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2465mm.

The India-spec new Suzuki Alto 800 is likely to use the existing 796cc naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 48bhp and 69Nm of torque. This engine could also feature the Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid tech. Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be on offer. The new model will also receive new design and better equipped cabin. It is expected to get a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder and speed alert system will come as standard.
