American automaker Jeep has recently introduced the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs for the global markets. The company is also developing 3 new SUVs – a 7-seater Grand Compass, a sub-3 meter SUV and the next-gen Grand Cherokee. The company is also readying the Compass facelift, which is expected to be launched in early 2021. We reported earlier that Jeep is readying the second generation Renegade SUV. The new Renegade is expected to be unveiled in 2022.
The next-gen Jeep Renegade mid-sized SUV will retain the existing Small Wide Platform 4×4, which also underpins the Compass SUV and the upcoming Grand Compass. The American automaker will make changes to the platform, which is expected to be lighter and stronger than the current model. The updated platform improves the performance and off-road capabilities of the upcoming Renegade.
The company has started testing the 7-seater Compass, which is expected to feature the updated platform. On the other hand, the upcoming sub-4 meter SUV will be based on the new CMP (Common Modular Platform). This platform will be shared with the Groupe PSA and the Citroen’s upcoming C21 compact SUV will also be based on the same platform. The sub-4 meter SUV is expected to share the design cues from the Renegade.
It is reported that the second-gen Jeep Renegade will also be launched in the country in India. This model will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Earlier planned to make debut in late 2021, the global debut has been delayed to 2022 due to coronavirus pandemic. Official launch is likely to take place in 2023.
The second generation Jeep Renegade is expected to be offered in 3 engine options – a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, a 1.6-litre MJD diesel and an all-new 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The same engine configuration could also be offered on the India-spec model. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.
