Jeep Grand Wagoneer Returns After 3 Decades

American SUV maker, Jeep had introduced the iconic Wagoneer SUV in 1962, which was discontinued in 1991. It was the first 4WD SUV paired to an automatic gearbox. After almost 3 decades, Jeep has announced the return of the iconic Wagoneer SUV. The company has released the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept, which seems production ready.

The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be produced at FCA’s Warren, Michigan plant. The new models will go on sale in the United States of America by 2021. It will directly rival the Land Rover Range Rover and the Cadillac Escalade.

This full size SUV comes with bold profile, featuring traditional Jeep 7-slat grille. The slats illuminated with LED lights that stretches the entire width of the grille. It comes equipped with LED bi-functional LED projector headlamps. Wagoneer badging can be seen at the end of the hood, right above the sleeker Jeep grille. The SUV gets a contrasting full-pane glass roof, which shows a map of Detroit. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer concept features massive multi-spoke 24-inch wheels, Grand Wagoneer badging on the lower front doors, wrap-around LED tail-lamps and powered tail-gate. The SUV gets flat rear and side profile, which seems inspired by the original Wagoneer.

The cabin of the Grand Wagoneer is futuristic, featuring seven infotainment screens. There is a 12.3-inch driver display, a 12.1-inch touchscreen on the central console, and an additional 10.25-inch touchscreen placed below on the console. The co-driver also gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen system. There are 3 digital screens for the rear occupants, a 10.1-inch touchscreen between the captain seats, and a couple of 10.1-inch screens mounted on the back of the front seats. The SUV is fitted with FCA’s latest UConnect 5 system, which is claimed to be 5 times faster. The SUV gets McIntosh audio system with 23 speakers and 24 channel amplifier.

The company hasn’t released the engine specifications of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, but it is confirmed to feature a plug-in-hybrid powertrain. The SUV will be offered three 4×4 systems, independent front and rear suspension set-up along with a Quadra-Lift air suspension.
