We informed you earlier that Yamaha is preparing a more premium variant of the R15 V3.0 for the Indian market. To be called the new Yamaha R15M, the new motorcycle has been leaked on the web world. The new motorcycle will be positioned above the existing R15, as Yamaha uses M name for performance-based models internationally.
The new Yamaha R15M comes with design changes, which are inspired by the global R7 fully-faired super-sport motorcycle. It gets a new single LED projector headlamp, which looks similar to the R7. This setup is very much like the MT15 which has LED daytime running lights. The motorcycle gets new windscreen, a new stubbier exhaust system, new LED tail-light and revised body panels.
Instead of the conventional telescopic front forks, the new Yamaha R15M gets premium upside-down front forks. The new motorcycle is also likely to receive a revised instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity. The leaked picture shows that the motorcycle gets MotoGP livery and the golden colour USD front forks.
The type approval document reveals the dimensions and engine specifications of the new R15M. In terms of proportions, the new faired motorcycle is 1,990mm long, 725mm wide and 1,135mm tall. The motorcycle rides on 1,325mm long wheelbase, and has a ground clearance of 170mm. The dimensions are similar to that of the R15 V3.
The leaked document confirms that the new bike is powered by a 155cc, single-cylinder engine that powers the R15. Paired to a 6-speed gearbox, this engine produces a peak power output of 18.24bhp at 10,000rpm and 14.1Nm of torque at 8,500rpm. It gets slipper/assist clutch as standard. For braking duties, the new R15M gets 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc brakes. The motorcycle gets dual-channel ABS system as standard.The new motorcycle is expected to be priced slightly premium around Rs 5,000 – Rs 6,000. The R15 V3 is available at a price tag of Rs 1.56 lakh (ex-showroom).
