New Renault SUVs/EVs Planned For India – Details

The French carmaker recently marked its entry into the sub-4 meter SUV space with the Renault Kiger. The compact SUV comes in 4 trims priced from Rs 5.45 lakh to Rs 8 lakh (all, ex-showroom). After the Kiger, the company is planning to expand its product portfolio with a range of SUVs and electric cars. The lineup will include the new-generation Duster, Triber turbo, Kwid electric and Kiger and Tiber EVs (if possible).

According to a fresh media report, the Renault Triber turbo launch has been pushed to 2022 due to unknown reasons. The model will use the 1.0, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor that was recently introduced on the Kiger.

Renault Triber AMT

Available with manual and CVT gearbox, the turbo-petrol unit pushes out a peak power of 99bhp and 160Nm of torque. The Renault Triber turbo is expected to be priced around Rs 1 lakh premium over the naturally aspirated petrol variants.

Renault’s popular Duster SUV will receive a generation in coming years. While there is no official word on its launch timeline, we expect it to come sometime in 2022 or 2023. If reports are to be believed, the model might be offered with 5-seats and 7-seats configurations.

Dacia Bigster Duster

While the new Renault Duster 5-seater model will be placed against the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, the 7-seater version will take head-to-head against the MG Hector Plus and the upcoming Tata Safari and new-generation Mahindra XUV500.

The Renault Kwid electric launch is also on cards. However, its launch has been delayed due to lack of infrastructure in the country. The model uses a 26.8kWh battery pack with an 44bhp, 125Nm electric motor that delivers power to the front wheels.

The Kwid EV offers a range of 225km on a full charge. Its battery can be charged up to 80% via a 30kW CCS DC charger within an hour and 100% via a standard 7.4kW power socket in 5 hours. Reports also suggest that the carmaker might bring in the Renault Kiger electric and Triber electric if it’s possible.
