New Mahindra Thar Imagined As Highway Police Patrol Vehicle

Mahindra Thar off-road SUV has always been a popular choice among enthusiasts. With the generation change, the model will serve wider audience with its lifestyle centric design and features. The new Mahindra Thar made its debut on 15th August, and its official launch is slated to happen on 2nd October. We have reported that the carmaker is also considering the 5-door version of the Thar for the Indian market. While we have seen the new Thar 5-door rendering, a latest one imagined it as a “Police Highway Patrol” car. Isn’t it interesting, han!

Painted in black shade, the new Thar Police edition features protective guards with coloured lights fitted on the top. The retro-style circular headlamps, new Wrangler-inspired grille, fog lamp assembly and pronounced hood are exactly similar to the second-generation Thar. You can also notice the coloured auxiliary lights fitted on the roof top. The rear seat windows have steel net covering enhancing its rugged looks. The special graphics on the side door further distinguish it from the regular model.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar will come with a new 2.0L mStallion petrol and a more powerful 2.2L mHawk diesel engine option. While the gasoline motor returns a claimed power of 150bhp with 320Nm, the oil burner makes 130bhp against 300Nm. For the first time, the Thar will be offered with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The off-road SUV can also be had with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Features such as new suspension setup, better approach, departure and ramp-over angles, mechanical locking differential, 650mm of water wading capacity, 226mm of ground clearance and shift-on-the-fly 4X4 manual shift transfer case make it a more capable off-roader. The new Thar will be made available in 6 paint schemes, namely, Aquamarine, Red Rage, Rocky Beige, Mystic Copper, Galaxy Grey and Napoli Black.
