The next generation Mahindra Scorpio is scheduled to be launched in the mid-2021, most probably in June-July. The new model has been spotted in production avatar for the first time. The latest spy images reveal some interesting details about the styling and size of the new Scorpio.
The latest spy images confirm that the new Mahindra Scorpio will be larger and more upmarket than the outgoing car. Not just dimensions, the new model comes with a completely new look; however, the overall profile remains identical to the previous model. The SUV’s production-ready front fascia looks modern, dominated by a signature Mahindra grille featuring vertical slats. Adding to it, the SUV has twin-pod headlamps with integrated LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps).
The SUV retains the upright rear profile with a side-hinged tailgate. The outside rear view mirrors come with integrated blinkers. Other design highlights include roof rails, side steps and multi-spoke alloy wheels. It also gets the pull-type door handles.
The new Mahindra Scorpio will be based on the modified version of the body-on-ladder frame. Called ZEN3 platform, this platform also underpins the new-gen Mahindra Thar. Thanks to the larger dimensions, the new Scorpio’s high-end variants are likely to receive front-facing third-row of seats.
The previous interior spy images reveal that the new Scorpio will have dual-tone brown and black interior with beige upholstery. The SUV will have multi-coloured speedometer. It won’t be offered with Mercedes-like instrument console, which will be made available in the new XUV500. The SUV will continue to offer bench-type seat for the second row. The SUV is also expected to come with a factory-fitted sunroof. The new Mahindra Scorpio will be benefitted with high-end comfort and convenience features such as new touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, reverse camera, leather seats and head-up display.
The new Scorpio is expected to be powered by a new 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine producing around 158bhp of power. The SUV will also receive a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the new Thar. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
