Mahindra has officially revealed that it will launch 13 new vehicles in the Indian market by 2027. Buoyed by excellent response for new Thar and the XUV700, Mahindra will introduce 5 new models and 8 new electric vehicles. The company will launch 4 all-new EVs and 4 EVs based on the existing models.
Mahindra has confirmed that the new generation Scorpio SUV will be launched in the country in 2022. The exact launch month is yet to be announced, but it is reportedly to go on sale between January 2022 and December 2022. It is expected that the new Scorpio will arrive in the first half of 2022.
The new Scorpio will be joined by the hybrid version of the Mahindra XUV700, which could arrive before the end of 2022. Mahindra has already confirmed that it is working on the long wheelbase, 5-door version of the Thar lifestyle SUV. The new 5-door Thar will be launched anytime between 2023 and 2027, most probably in 2023-24 financial year.
5-Door Mahindra Thar
The 5-door Mahindra Thar will be more profitable than the 3-door model. It is also stated that the Thar 3-door could be offered as a made-to-order model. If reports are to be believed, the new 5-door Mahindra Thar won’t be just an extended version of the existing model with a redesigned top hat. The company could work on the suspension setup to improve the overall ride quality. Mahindra will also offer lighter steering in the 5-door model.
It will be based on the modified version of the existing platform. It will have longer wheelbase, and extended body to add new rear passengers’ doors. Adding to it, the SUV will offer a larger boot space. The new 5-door Thar is likely to get a 180mStallion Pro turbo petrol engine, which will be more powerful and faster than the current model. It is expected that the new Thar could achieve a speed of up to 180kmph. The company could tweak the diesel engine to produce up to 160bhp of power.
New Scorpio
The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio will be significantly bigger and has more features than the outgoing model. It will be based on the new ladder-on-frame chassis that underpins the new Thar lifestyle SUV. Previous reports suggest that the new Scorpio will offer multiple seating options including 7-seater model with forward facing third-row seats. The new Scorpio could also offer a 5-seater derivative.
It will be offered with a de-tuned version of the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder mHawk turbo engine that powers the XUV700 MX variant. This engine produces 155bhp and 360Nm of torque. The SUV will also receive a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. Rear-wheel-drive layout will be offered as standard, while the top-spec model will get AWD system.
