New-Look Mahindra Roxor Off-Roader In The Works

Mahindra & Mahindra, the homegrown automaker is reportedly started working on the newly designed ROXOR off-roder. With design changes, the new model will look different from the off-roader Jeep SUVs. In fact, a teaser image of the new-look Mahindra Roxor has also been leaked that partially reveals the design.

The Mahindra Roxor off-roader is introduced as the side-by-side model in the North American market. The SUV is designed and developed in Auburn Hills, Michigan by Mahindra Automotive North America. The off-roader is built on the first-gen Mahindra Thar, which has recently been discontinued from the domestic market. Not just platform, the new Roxor will share the underpinnings and engine specs with the old Thar.

The Mahindra Roxor in the US market was introduced with old-school design and several customisation options. If reports are to be believed, the off-roader will come with much cleaner design rather than the Jeep-like face. It features a wider bonnet with conventional SUV-like front. The Roxor off-roader will have retro-styling with wider nose. The Mahindra Roxor off-roader gets contrasting colour plastic surround border that runs across the front and the headlamps. It gets all-new bumper design, new grille and exposed tyres.

The Roxor is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine, which is basically the same 2.5L Di unit that was offered with the previous Thar. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. The SUV comes with 2-speed transfer case, full-floating axles, leaf springs, disc brakes up front and drum brakes at the rear. The off-roader was equipped with standard 16-inch wheels. In the United States, the Mahindra Roxor off-roader was available at USD 15,999 (approx Rs 12 lakh) for manual version and USD 16,999 (approx Rs 12.70 lakh) for the automatic model. The Roxor won’t make its way to our market. Mahindra will introduce the next-gen Thar lifestyle SUV before Diwali this year.
