The American SUV manufacturer, Jeep is getting ready to expand its global product portfolio with a new entry-level SUV that’s reported to debut in 2023. In fact, the company has begun testing the vehicle on foreign land. Recently, a heavily camouflaged test mule of the new Jeep small SUV caught on camera revealing a few design details. If reports are to be believed, the model could be named Jeepster.
The prototype has split headlamp setup that looks similar to the Citroen models, while Jeep’s signature grille isn’t visible. The new Jeep small SUV is likely to have thick plastic cladding all around the bodywork and aluminium-style skid plates enhancing its sporty appearance.
It will also come with the squarish wheel arches, pronounced front and rear fenders, bold C-pillar and dual-tone roof with roof rails. Some of its design elements could be borrowed from the Jeep Renegade including the LED taillamps, sporty rear spoiler and massive rear bumper. Read: Jeep Meridian Vs Toyota Fortuner
The new Jeep Jeepster SUV will underpin the eCMP architecture that’s also used by sister company Peugeot and Citroen. It will measure around 4.23 metres, which is similar to the Renegade. The SUV will be offered with multiple engine options including a pure electric powertrain.
The new Jeep small electric SUV will feature a 50kWh lithium-ion battery and a front-mounted 10kW electric motor. It will promise a range of around 321km. The carmaker has confirmed that its upcoming small SUV will offer AWD (all-wheel drive) system. That means, it will be the first vehicle in its segment to offer 4X4 capabilities.
Jeepster India Launch
Jeep Jeepster SUV will also make its way to India sometime next year. Here, it could be made available with Citroen’s heavily localised 1.2L turbo petrol engine that will be used in the soon-to-be-launched C3 hatchback.
