New Hyundai i20 N Rally2 Car Debuts For Private Teams & Drivers

Hyundai has revealed the new i20 N Rally2, which is the brand’s latest motorsport offering for private teams and drivers. This model replaces the old i20 R5, which has been in circulation since 2015. It is claimed to deliver an improved all-round package.

It is based on the new road-going i20 N chassis. This is for the first time that Hyundai i20 has been offered with N Performance package. This model is claimed to be race track capable and offers motorsport-derived performance. The new model retains the look of the road car, which features Hyundai’s new ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ identity.

Except the 5-speed sequential gearbox from the i20 R5, nearly every other part of the i20 N Rally2 is claimed to be brand new, including the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. While powering the i20 N, this engine produces 201bhp and 275Nm of torque. The design process of the new hot hatch started in January 2020 with a group of designers and engineers having experience of the i20 R5 project.

Hyundai MotorSport department recently updated the i20 R5 for improved handling and performance. The new Rally2 hot hatch carries over these enhancements, with the new chassis allowing further gains in nearly every aspect of the car. It comes with new suspension components and dampers, which give the car more driver-friendly handling characteristics.

With the new i20 N Rally2, Hyundai Motorsport will aim to continue the success of the i20 R5 which has claimed numerous titles with customers since its debut in 2016. “Our focus is now on testing the i20 N Rally2 to further develop each aspect of the design to improve performance and reliability, while also ensuring the handling enables each of our customers to achieve the best possible results when the start competing with the car in 2021,” said Team Principal Andrea Adamo.
