New Hyundai i20 Based Compact Crossover Spied

Hyundai has recently introduced the new-gen i20 premium hatchback, which will be launched in India during festive season, 2020. The Korean automaker is also testing an all-new compact crossover, which is rumoured to be based on the upcoming i20 hatchback.

The new i20 crossover is likely to be Hyundai’s smallest crossover for the European market. It could be launched as a replacement for the i20 Active cross. The jagged-up version of the i20 hatchback features black plastic cladding and sporty design elements; however, the upcoming Hyundai Crossover is likely to feature all-new design and unique bodywork.

The front fascia of the new Hyundai i20 crossover looks largely identical to the regular model, particularly at the front. However, the rear profile of the crossover is completely different. The spotted model has longer roof, slightly sloping roofline and a more wagon-like styling. At the back, the new i20 crossover gets new tail-lamps.

The interior was covered by a transparent cover, which shows that the crossover shares the same dashboard design with the i20 crossover. It comes equipped with a large 10.25-inch digital instrument console, which merges well with the same sized 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

The new Hyundai i20 based crossover will be positioned below the Kona in Hyundai’s European UV range. The company is not selling the Venue compact SUV in the European markets. The new crossover will be offered in the front-wheel-drive system. It will share the engine options with the new i20 hatchback, which includes a new 1.0-litre T-GDI petrol engine. This engine offers two states of tunes – 100PS and 120PS. The 120PS, 1.0L turbocharged engine also gets a mild-hybrid 48-volt system. Transmission options will include six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The new Hyundai i20 crossover is likely to be launched in the European markets in the end of this year. The new model could replace the i20 Active in global markets. Hyundai is already selling the Venue compact SUV in India.
