All-New Hyundai i20 Likely To Get iMT and Bose Sound System

Korean automaker, Hyundai is readying the new-generation i20 hatchback for India launch. The all-new Hyundai i20 is rumoured to be launched during festive season, before Diwali. It will share visual similarities with the global model; though, Hyundai will make some changes to suit the Indian market.

The new model will share a lot of features and engine options with the Venue compact SUV. Adding to it, the new i20 will also receive some new features like air purifier with virus protection, digital instrument console, a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and others. New media reports suggest that the new i20 could also receive the Bose premium sound system, which we have already seen on the new Kia Sonet.

Similar to the Venue, the new Hyundai i20 is also likely to receive the new iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission). We informed you earlier that the upcoming i20 hatchback will come with 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which also powers the Venue, Aura, Grand i10 Nios Turbo and the Elantra sedan. This engine is capable of producing 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission).

The new iMT gearbox has clutch-by-wire system that removes the need for a clutch pedal. There is a sensor in the manual gear lever to find out when the driver is changing gear to engage the clutch. Hyundai claims that this system is more cost efficient than AMTs and other automatic gearboxes.

Apart from the 1.0L turbo petrol, the new i20 will also receive the BSVI compliant 1.2L NA petrol and a new 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. Hyundai could also introduce the diesel automatic option. The new i20 will take on the likes of the Honda Jazz and Maruti Baleno.
