New Honda SUV To Get ADAS & Efficient Hybrid Powertrain

Japanese automaker, Honda is all set to launch a new mid-size SUV in our market by mid-2023. The new Honda SUV is scheduled to make its global debut in India in the second quarter of 2023, April-June. The new SUV has been spotted multiple times on the Indian roads. In fact, the spy images have revealed interesting details about the new Honda SUV. 

The spy images reveal that the new Honda SUV styling will be inspired from the global SUVs including the HR-V and the new-gen WR-V. The new Honda SUV has a mesh-type front grille, flanked by LED daytime running lamps. It has a new bold integrated front grille, a long bonnet and LED headlamps with LED daytime running lamps. The SUV has an upright stance and a slightly tapered roofline. The SUV has large glass areas, which should offer a more airy feel in the second row.

The new Honda SUV will have an electric sunroof, wrap-around tail-lights with LED elements, and a tailgate mounted spoiler.  The recent spy images also confirm that the upcoming mid-size SUV will come with ADAS tech with features like collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation system, lane keeping assist system, adaptive cruise control and auto high-beam. The latest test mule was equipped with the radar system placed behind the front windshield. This is similar to the one offered on the City hybrid. 

The upcoming Honda SUV will also feature a 360 degree camera, Honda’s Lane Watch system to detect blind spots and many more. The SUV will also offer six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, VSM, hill launch assist and an electronic parking brake. The cabin will be completely different from the City hybrid. It is expected to get an all-electronic architecture and screen system that’s offered on the new Accord and CR-V on sale in global markets. It is expected to get a new 10.2-inch digital driver display and a 12.3-ich touchscreen infotainment system.

Rumoured to be called the Honda Elevate, the new SUV will be offered with two engine options – a  1.5L iVTEC petrol and a 1.5L Atkinson cycle engine with e:HEV hybrid tech with two electric motors. The regular petrol engine is good for 121bhp and 145Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a CVT. In the hybrid set-up, the petrol engine produces 98bhp and with electric assistance it makes 109bhp. Its combined torque output stands at 253Nm.
