New Honda SUV Between HR-V and CR-V In The Works

It is no secret that Honda is readying multiple new SUVs to improve its shares globally. The company will introduce the new-gen HR-V and an all-new sub-4 meter SUV in the first half of 2021. The new HR-V will grow in size and will turn into a Coupe-SUV. On the flip side, the sub-4 meter SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky.

The new sub-4 meter SUV is rumoured to be based on the new-gen Fit/Jazz hatchback and will replace the WR-V in select markets. However, the company could use the Amaze’s platform to achieve competitive pricing. According to Mag-X – a renowned magazine from Japan, Honda is also preparing a new mid-sized SUV. This SUV will be positioned between the upcoming Honda Vezel aka Honda HR-V and the popular CR-V SUV.

The report also claims that the new SUV will be a ‘derivative’ of the latest generation Honda Vezel. The Japanese brand is current testing a mysteriour SUV, which is rumoured to be the next-gen Honda HR-V. The new-gen HR-V will be positioned against the Toyota Corolla Cross. It will be released in select markets in March or April 2021.

The reports claim that the upcoming Honda mid-sized SUV will have quite large dimensions, and will follow in the footsteps of the Honda Crossroad in the past. It is expected to measure somewhere around 4.5 meters in length and will be positioned against the more rugged SUVs like the Jeep Compass. The body style of the new SUV will also be different from the upcoming new HR-V.

The upcoming Honda mid-sized SUV is expected to be offered with a 1.8-litre or a 2.0-litre petrol engine. The company could also add the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with manual and automatic gearbox option. Few days back, we reported that Honda is still considering the HR-V nameplate for the Indian market. While the new model will turn into a glamorous Coupe-SUV, the new derivative with bigger dimensions and Macho look could be a preferred choice for India.
