New Honda HR-V SUV: More Details Emerge

Honda will start teaser campaign for the next generation Vezel (also known as New Honda HR-V) from February 18, 2021. The SUV will be fully revealed for the home market on April 22, while launch is scheduled in May 2021. Honda has already released few teaser images of the new model, which reveals the exterior and interior details.

It will be the first generation change for the Honda HR-V in seven and a half years since its launch in December 2013. The SUV has been caught testing multiple times, which reveals that the new Honda Hr-V exterior design will be inspired by the Honda e:Concept SUV. It is reported that the new model will grow in size. The overall length and width will be increased, while the overall height will be lowered.

The new Honda HR-V is reportedly to measure 4,450mm in length, 1,780mm in width and 1,600mm in height. The current model is 4,330mm long, 1,770mm wide and 1,605mm height and has a wheelbase of 2,610mm. The new model is around 120mm longer and 10mm wider, while the total height is reduced by 5mm. The wheelbase has been increased by 20mm to 2,630mm, which should help Honda engineers to create more space inside the cabin.

The new model has a minimum ground clearance of 185mm, which is expected to be same as the current model. The rear door handles are placed on the C-pillar, and the new model has coupe-like design. The new Honda HR-V will be offered with two engine options – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre hybrid. The naturally-aspirated engine is capable of producing 121bhp and 145Nm of torque.

The hybrid unit comprises of a 1.5-litre iMMD (intelligent-Multi Mode Drive) petrol engine connected to a compact, powerful electric motor, a lithium-ion battery and a fixed-gear transmission. The hybrid system offers a total power output of 109PS. It is claimed to offer an excellent fuel efficiency of 26.7kmpl.

The new HR-V will also receive a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine at a later stage. This model will be offered with both 2WD and 4WD drive systems with CVT automatic gearbox. The new model will be offered in 3 trim levels – X, Z and Play. The Play is the top-spec model equipped with 2-tone color, sunroof and aluminum wheels.

It will come equipped with Honda Sensing Safety suite, which is also available with the new Fit. The SUV gets emergency automatic braking system. The new model is reportedly to be priced around 200,000 Yen (Approximately INR 13.81 lakh). The new Honda HR-V will rival the Toyota C-HR, Mazda CX-3, Toyota Yaris Cross and the Jeep Compass.
