New Honda Civic Based SUV Spotted For The First Time

We informed you earlier that Honda is working on a new mid-sized SUV, which will be positioned between the HR-V and the CR-V. The new model is reportedly to be based on the new Civic platform. The new Honda Civic based SUV will compete against the likes of the Toyota Corolla Cross. The new model is reportedly to be unveiled in September 2022.

The spotted model is completely covered in thick cloth; however, silhouette of the new Honda Civic SUV is clearly visible. The new model could measure around 4.5 meters, which is closer to the Toyota Corolla Cross (4.46 meters).

The front face is not visible in the spy images. The report claims that the new Honda Civic based SUV will have a wide face, featuring a large grille and prominent air-dam. The new model comes with sleek LED projector headlamps and LED fog lamps.

There will be a prominent plastic cladding all-around the body. It has a prominent character line that runs across the length, starting from the bonnet to rear door. The SUV gets blacked-out pillars, and sporty black alloys. Some of the design highlights will include pull-type door handles, ORVMS with integrated blinkers, tapering roofline, etc.

It comes with a shark fin antenna. At the back, the new Civic SUV comes with LED tail-lights, roof spoiler with brake light and prominent bumper. There is a chrome strip that connects the tail-lights.

The cabin pictures are yet to be released. It is likely to share interior with the new Civic as well as the new-gen HR-V. The SUV could get a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully-digital instrument console, connected car tech, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery and multi-functional steering wheel. The SUV could be equipped with a panoramic sunroof.

Not just platform, the new Honda SUV is likely to share the engine specifications with the Civic sedan. It is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 182bhp at 6,000rpm and 240Nm of torque at 1,700rpm. The vehicle could also get the e:HEV strong hybrid system to achieve higher efficiency. A CVT automatic gearbox will be offered as standard.
