New Honda SUV Between HR-V & CR-V To Debut In September 2022

Japanese media reports that Honda is working on an all-new mid-sized SUV, which will be introduced in September 2022. The new SUV will be based on the new Civic’s platform and will be positioned between the HR-V and the CR-V. The company will also launch the next-gen CR-V in 2022.

It is reported that the new Honda mid-sized SUV will measure around 4.5 meters in length, which will make it a direct rival to the likes of the Toyota Corolla Cross, Haval Jolion and the Subaru XV. The new model is likely to be 4,500mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,625mm tall.

Honda SUV Rendered

It is placed right between the new-gen Honda HR-V and the current CR-V. While the former is 4,340mm long, 1,790mm wide and 1,582mm tall, the CR-V measures 4,635mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,689mm in height.

Not just platform, the new Honda SUV is likely to share the engine specifications with the Civic sedan. It is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 182bhp at 6,000rpm and 240Nm of torque at 1,700rpm. The vehicle could also get the e:HEV strong hybrid system to achieve higher efficiency. A CVT automatic gearbox will be offered as standard.

The report suggests that the new mid-sized SUV would be different from the current Honda SUVs, and will target buyers “with an active outdoor lifestyle.” The new model could borrow components from the HR-V. It could share the interior with the new HR-V. In fact, the rendering suggest that the SUV could have an upright profile and rear lights inspired by the next-gen CR-V.

Honda India Plans

Honda is readying a new mid-sized SUV for the Indian market. The new model is likely to be based on the new City platform and will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor. Expect it to share the interior components and engine options with the City sedan.
