Hero MotoCorp has some big plans for the Indian market. With an aim to make its presence felt in the premium motorcycle segment, the indigenous two-wheeler manufacturer will introduce four new models in the next 3-4 years. The upcoming Hero premium bikes will fall under two different categories – Core Premium and Upper Premium. Currently, the company is reportedly working on three platforms – a 210cc liquid-cooled engine that will power the new Karizma XMR 210, a 420cc liquid-cooled engine, and a 440cc oil-cooled motor that will power the Harley-Davidson X440.
Speaking to an online media publication, Pawan Munjal, Chairman of Hero MotoCorp, stated that Harley-Davidson will play an important role in its growth in the premium motorcycle space. He further mentioned that if their first co-developed Harley-Davidson X440 receives an overwhelming response from buyers, there will be potential for expanding the partnership on a global level. Munjal also revealed that Hero’s new premium bike, based on the same platform as the Harley-Davidson X440, will be launched in the fourth quarter of this fiscal year (i.e., early 2024).
Rumors suggest that the upcoming Hero premium bike could be named Xtreme 440R. The model will share its powertrain with the Harley-Davidson X440, which utilizes a 440cc single-cylinder, 2-valve, oil-cooled engine. The engine, paired with a 6-speed gearbox, offers a claimed power of 27bhp and 38Nm of torque. The new Hero Xtreme 440R is expected to share most of its design elements and features with the Harley-Davidson X440.
