The forthcoming Suzuki Swift’s next generation made a striking appearance in its concept form at the Tokyo Motor Show just last week, offering a tantalizing glimpse into its fresh aesthetics and more upscale interior. While the preview unveiled several details, many aspects are still unfolding. Recently, we gained insights into its dimensions. The new Maruti Swift measures 3860mm in length, 1695mm in width, and 1500mm in height.
Compared to the current generation, which stretches to 3845mm in length, 1735mm in width, and 1530mm in height, the new model gains an extra 15mm in length, while its width and height see reductions of 40mm and 30mm, respectively. The wheelbase, however, remains unchanged at a steady 2450mm. When pitted against its primary rival, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, the new Swift emerges as the larger contender, boasting an additional 45mm in length and 15mm in width. Nonetheless, it stands 30mm shorter in height compared to the Grand i10 Nios, which shares the same wheelbase of 2450mm with the Swift.
The showcased Tokyo model boasted an array of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) technology. It remains to be seen whether the India-bound Swift will be equipped with ADAS features. The interior theme is reminiscent of the Baleno and Fronx, showcasing elements such as the steering wheel design, a free-standing infotainment system complete with smartphone connectivity, and the HVAC controls. The new Maruti Swift flaunts a significantly enhanced design. It sports sharper headlamps equipped with LED projector daytime running lights (DRLs), a newly designed and larger grille featuring dark chrome accents, a more streamlined front end, and a revised front bumper. A bold character line runs along its side profile, accentuating its sporty appearance. At the rear, you’ll notice a new rear door and a fresh rear bumper and tailgate design.
The showcased model proudly displayed ‘Hybrid’ badging at the rear, confirming the presence of a hybrid powertrain. In India, the new Maruti Swift is expected to retain the existing petrol engine, offering both manual and AMT gearbox options.
