Maruti Suzuki Swift has been a winning horse for the Indo-Japanese automaker since its launch in May 2005. Within 17 years of its lifespan, the hatchback has witnessed multiple facelifts and generation changes in the country. Now, it’s ready to enter its fifth generation with radical design changes, feature upgrades, and most importantly, the strong hybrid powertrain. The hatch’s next-generation model will make its world debut in October, followed by its India launch in early 2024 (possibly in the month of February). As mentioned above, the fifth-generation Swift will be made available with the strong hybrid powertrain, which will include a new 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine and Toyota’s Atkinson cycle. Speculations are rife that the hatchback’s all-new model will be high on fuel efficiency, delivering an ARAI-certified mileage of 35-40kmpl. With such figures, it will become the most fuel-efficient car in India. The new strong hybrid powertrain will also meet the stricter CAFÉ II (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards. The lower variants of the hatchback are likely to come with the existing 1.2L Dualjet petrol motor that offers a claimed fuel economy of 23.76kmpl. This gasoline unit generates a maximum power of 89bhp and 113Nm of torque.
Comprehensive changes will also be made to its interior. The new 2024 Maruti Swift will have a new SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, OTA (over-the-air updates), and Suzuki voice assist. Features such as a new all-digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charger, HUD, and a 360-degree camera might also be onboard.
The underpinning could be a heavily modified version of the existing Heartect platform. The new 2024 Maruti Swift will have a more angular stance than the current generation. Some of its major design changes might include a newly designed front grille, a tweaked bumper, sleeker headlamps with new LED elements, faux air vents, new body panels, flared wheel arches, blacked-out pillars, and a roof-mounted spoiler.
