Toyota is preparing a wide range of new electric vehicles, which will be introduced in the next couple of years. A set of patent images of the upcoming Toyota model has been leaked online. The small SUV seems to be a production version of Toyota’s small electric SUV.
It is expected to be called Toyota BZ2X, which made its official debut as the BZ Small SUV EV concept in late 2021. The leaked patent images yet to confirm that this model will join the brand’s ‘BZ’ family of electric vehicles. This crossover could be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The patent images reveal that the new SUV misses out on an exhaust tip; however, it gets a traditional grille. The traditional grille shows that the SUV could require a radiator to be cooled, which is common in petrol-powered model. Also visible are flaps on both rear quarter panels that points towards a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The flap could be hiding an electrical plug.
Interestingly, The Chinese-spec Toyota BZ4X electric SUV comes with electrical plugs on both sides. These patent images also suggests that the new Toyota SUV could be a battery powered vehicle. The SUV is riding on the same wheel design offered on the Yaris Cross GR Sport.
The company had showcased the brand’s new design language with the BZ small EV concept in December 2021. The SUV has C-shaped LED headlamps, crossover-like rearward front fenders and sculpted bonnet. Toyota is also working on a new Europe-focused ‘E3’ platform, which will have a combination of ‘GA-C’ global compact platform and its electric ‘e-TNGA’ architecture. The new platform will be compatible with multiple engine options including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric.
If media reports are to be believed, the new E3 platform will make its debut on the second generation C-HR. The next-gen Toyota C-HR is expected to be revealed in the coming months. Toyota hasn’t released any information on the mysterious SUV; however, the announcement on the new model is just around the corner.
