MG Comet EV Review

Cabin Space, Features

Despite the small footprints, the MG Comet EV offers decent cabin space. Since it has a born EV platform, there is no transmission tunnel and battery packs are placed under the seats. There is enough legroom for the rear seat passenger, but it lacks thigh support. In order to approach the rear seat, you have to pull the lever positioned at the front co-passenger seat and move the seat forward – one-touch tumble and fold feature. The ingress and egress could be a struggle for wide body-built people. The rear seat offers decent kneeroom, even if a tall person (above 6 foot) driving the car. Though, there won’t be much space for stretching the legs. Read – MG Comet EV Vs Tata Tiago EV

The Comet EV provides ample headroom even for the tall passengers, more than the WagonR. All passengers get 3 point seatbelt and headrests. Boot space is heavily compromised. Though, there is space for luggage with the rear seat fold down. It could be challenging to open its tall and large doors at tight parking spots.

MG Comet Specs

The EV has two Type-A USB charger at the front. It doesn’t have bottle holders at the front and rear. The MG Comet has White and Grey interior theme with two 10.25-inch screens – one for the infotainment system and one for the digital instrument cluster. The info unit supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with smooth user interface. It gets a rotary drive selector. Some of its other highlights include manual AC controls, over 55 connected features, apple-inspired steering mounted controls, keyless entry, reverse camera and sensors, dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and tyre pressure monitoring system. MG Comet Performance

Suspension travel is minimal and its settings are stiff. The MG Comet comes with a 17.3kWh battery that’s claimed to offer an ARAI-certified range of 230km. Its li-ion battery pack, which is made of parismatic cell, delivers power worth 61bhp. MG has sourced the battery from Tata AutoComp. The electric car from MG offers zippy performance and power delivery is smooth. Though, the ride quality is stiff and its motor feels little noisy.

MG Comet Features

The Comet EV is easy to drive, turn and park in congest city areas, it has high body roll. Braking performance is good. It offers good visibility as well, thanks to its short bonnet and tall stance. Its hill hold assist works decently and gives you confidence to take it on flyover and hilly roads.

Real-World Range

We got the MG Comet with 97 percent charged battery and when we left it after driving 115kms its charging level was 15 percent. That means, we consumed its 82 percent energy. One must note that we drove it with AC on all the time and had two heavy luggage with us. So, we expect it to give a range of around 160-170km on a single charge. Though, the range may vary as per driving conditions.
