New Honda SUV To Be Revealed On June 6 – Grand Vitara Rival

Scheduled to make global debut on June 6, the new Honda midsize SUV will go on sale in India during festive season before Diwali.

The much-awaited Honda midsize SUV is all set to make global debut in India on June 6. Internally codenamed 3US, the new Honda SUV is reportedly to be called the “Honda Elevate”. The new model will go on sale during festive season, before Diwali. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, VW Taigun and the MG Astor.

The new Honda midsize SUV will be designed and developed on the 5th generation City platform. The new SUV has been spotted testing multiple times, and the spy images reveal that it will have proper SUV credentials. It will have rugged styling with a strong nose and upright proportions instead of crossover & MPV-ish styling of the BR-V. Honda had showcased the SUV to dealers in private in Thailand and they were happy with the design.

The new Honda SUV will share styling cues from the bigger Honda SUVs including the new CR-V and the HR-V on sale in select international markets. It will come with a mesh-type front grille, flanked by sharper LED daytime running lamps. It will have a long bonnet and LED headlamps with LED DRLs, an upright stance and HR-V like side profile with slightly tapered roofline.

The new Honda midsize SUV will have a large glass areas, which should offer more airy feel in the second-row. The SUV will have muscular wheel arches with chunky cladding, multi-spoke alloy wheels and door-mounted ORVMs and prominent roof rails. The SUV will have an electric sunroof. The rear styling will be shared with the new gen WR-V. It gets wrap-around tail-lights with LED elements and halogen turn indicators. It has a sloping roofline with a tailgate mounted spoiler.

The latest spy images reveal that the new SUV will come with all-new interior. It is likely to get an all-electronic architecture and screen that’s offered on the new Accord and the CR-V. The SUV will sport a larger 10.2-inch digital driver display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. The SUV will also receive a 360 degree camera and Honda’s Lane Warch system to detect blind spots.

Similar to the City facelift, the new Honda SUV will come with a camera-based advanced driver assistance system or ADAS. The ADAS tech will offer features like collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and high-beam assist. The SUV will also offer six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, VSM, hill launch assist and an electronic parking brake.

Engine Options

The new SUV will be powered by a tried & tested 1.5L 4-cylinder iVTEC engine that produces 121bhp and 145Nm of torque. Both manual and CVT automatic gearbox options will be on offer. The SUV is also likely to get a 1.5L Atkinson cycle engine with a strong hybrid tech, called the e:HEV. In the hybrid set-up, the petrol engine produces 98bhp and with electric assistance it makes 109bhp. Its combined torque output stands at 253Nm.

It is reported that Honda could introduce the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with the new SUV. This engine churns out 120bhp at 5500rpm and a peak torque of 173Nm at 2000-4500rpm. This powertrain will be paired to a 7-speed continuously variable transmission or CVT.
