MG Motors has launched the much-awaited Astor mid-sized SUV in the Indian market. Priced between Rs 9.78 lakh and Rs 16.78 lakh, the new MG Astor is marginally cheaper than the two best-selling mid-sized SUVs – Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. While the price of the Astor is on lower side, the SUV manages to beat the rivals when it comes to features. Note: Prices of the Astor are introductory, and are applicable on the first 5,000 units. Deliveries for the new model will commence from November-December 2021.
– The price difference between the base Creta E and the Astor Style variant is 38,000. However, the Creta’s EX variant has similar features to the Astor base variant – and these two have a price difference of 1.34 lakh. Not just base variant, the Astor’s top-end variant is 1.09 lakh cheaper than the Hyundai Creta’s top-end model.
– MG Astor automatic is priced between Rs 12.68 lakh and Rs 16.78 lakh, while the Creta automatic costs between Rs 15.61 lakh and Rs 17.87 lakh. The automatic Astor is cheaper than its direct rival.

– The new Creta measures 4,300mm in length, 1,790mm in width and 1,635mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,610mm. It offers a boot space of 433-litres.
– In terms of proportions, the new Astor 4,323mm long, 1,809mm wide and 1,653mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,580mm. The SUV has a boot space of 400-litres.
– The Astor is 23mm longer, 19mm wider and 18mm taller than the Creta; however, the Creta has 30mm longer wheelbase. The longer wheelbase helps in creating more space inside the cabin. In fact, the Creta offers 33-litres bigger boot space than the Astor.

The Astor is offered with two petrol engine options – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged. On the other hand, the Creta is available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines. The Creta engine line-up includes a 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol, a 1.4L turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo-diesel.
The Astor’s 1.5L engine offers 110bhp and 144Nm of torque, while the 1.3L turbo unit produces 140bhp and 220Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual, an 8-speed CVT (1.5L Petrol) and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic (1.3L Turbo).
The Creta’s naturally-aspirated engine offers 113bhp and 144Nm of torque, while the 1.4L turbo produces 138bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, a CVT with 1.5L and a 7-speed DCT with turbo.
