MG Motor India has confirmed that its upcoming mid-sized SUV will be called the MG Astor. The new Astor SUV will be launched in September, 2021. Expected to be priced around Rs 11 lakh to Rs 17 lakh, the new mid-sized SUV will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and the new Volkswagen Taigun.
The new MG Astor mid-sized SUV will be equipped with several segment-first features. The new model will be equipped with a personal AI assistant and level II autonomous driving functions. The SUV also gets Jio-powered Internet features and the new Smart iHub connected car technology.
MG Motor has also revealed the interior of the new Astor SUV, which is fitted with several segment-leading features. The MG Astor comes with a dual-tone interior scheme. The SUV gets black and brown scheme, which is visible on the dashboard, on the door pads and on the seats. The brown-colour soft leather is visible on the dashboard, on the central tunnel and around the digital instrument console. The upper part is finished in black, while silver finish is added to the air-vents and around the digital instrument console.
The company’s personal AI assistant is placed on the top of the dashboard. There is a large touchscreen infotainment system on the central console, and will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The AC vents are placed above the touchscreen, while the control switches are placed below the screen.
The new MG Astor comes fitted with a digital instrument console, which will show multiple features. The SUV will get a leather-wrapped multi-functional steering wheel, a large panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, etc. The new Astor SUV will come equipped with ADAS, which offers such as autonomous emergency braking system, ESP, forward collision warning, speed limit assist, adaptive cruise control, rear drive assist, blind spot detection, lane keeping assist and automatic high-beam lighting system.
MG Astor is reportedly to come with two petrol engine options – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol. While the naturally-aspirated petrol engine will produce around 120bhp and 150Nm of torque, the turbocharged engine is capable of producing 163bhp of power and 230Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.
