Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance Launched; 0-100kmph In 2.9 Secs

Mercedes-AMG has finally announced the prices of the much-awaited AMG GT 63 S E Performance in the Indian market at a price tag of Rs 3.3 crore (ex-showroom, Pan India). The new model is based on the AMG GT; however, it comes with some design and interior changes.

The new model gets a revised front and rear bumpers, a charging port on the rear bumper, new exhaust system and newly styled alloy wheels (20 or 21-inch). Inside the cabin, the performance sedan gets a dual 12.4-inch displays for infotainment system and a digital instrument console. It has AMG-specific elements such as sport seats, steering wheel and others.

The letter “E” in the E Performance is for electric, as it gets a small electric motor and a battery on the rear axle. The entire setup has been developed in-house by Mercedes-AMG Team. The performance car gets a 4-litre bi-turbo V8 engine that churns out 640hp, while the electric motor gives an additional 204hp. The combined power and torque output stands at 831bhp and over 1470Nm respectively.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is claimed to achieve zero to 100kmph acceleration in just 2.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 316kmph. There is a two speed gearbox which sends the electric torque to all four wheels. There is a 6.1kWh battery pack placed above the rear axle, and the electric motor can offer 204bhp of power for up to 10 seconds.

The battery can be charged using a 3.7kW on-board AC charger at a charging station or using a home socket. The electric motor acts as an additional power source to V8 engine. The performance can drive up to 12 kilometers on pure EV mode. In the EV mode, the performance AMG can run from zero to speeds of up to 130kmph. It also supports regenerative braking, and one can choose between 4 levels of effectiveness. At the level 3, the system switches to maximum energy recovery mode and starts decelerating strongly on release of throttle.
