Mercedes-Benz, the luxury car manufacturer, has launched the Mercedes-AMG EQS flagship EV sedan in India at an introductory price of Rs 2.45 crore. The performance electric sedan has already started arriving at local dealerships for customers preview. It is the brand’s second electric vehicle in our market after the Mercedes-Benz EQC electric SUV.
Mercedes-Benz will also launch the standard EQS 580 electric sedan in our market. Scheduled to be launched in October, the new EQS 580 will arrive as a CKD model and will be locally assembled. On the other hand, the AMG version comes as a CBU or completely-built-up unit.
Mercedes-AMG EQS Specifications
The new EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric sedan is based on the AMG.EA platform. The all-new Mercedes-Benz EQS AMG 4Matic+ comes equipped with a 107.8kWh battery pack. It is fitted with two electric motors, with one motor each at the front and rear axles coupled to a variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ AWD system. It is claimed to produce a total power of 658bhp and a maximum torque of 950Nm.
The electric sedan has four-link axle at the front and a multi-link axle at the rear. The AMG engineers have tuned the system to make the electric sedan to achieve maximum performance. The AMG Ride Control+ suspension combines electronically controlled adjustable damping together with rear-axle steering.
It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in just 3.4 seconds before hitting an electronically-limited top speed of 250kmph (With the optional package). In the basic form, the AMG EQS accelerates to 100kmph from 0 in 3.8 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 220kmph.
The 107.8kWh battery pack has AMG specific wiring to achieve high-performance capacity. The system collects information and adjusts the damping force for each wheel. The electric sedan comes with 5 AMG Dynamic Select driving modes – Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual. Mercedes-Benz claims that the electric sedan has a certified range of 570km on a single charge.
The advanced battery pack can be DC fast charged at 200kW supply and it can be charged for up to 300km in 19 minutes. Using onboard charger, the electrified AMG can be conveniently charged with up to 22kW AC supply. The performance electric sedan comes with AMG high-performance compound brake system with 6-piston calipers. The brakes also has i-Booster function, which ensures that the braking combines electric recuperation with the hydraulic brake at a highly efficient manner.
Design and Interior
The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric sedan has sporty looks, thanks to AMG styling elements. The front fascia has AMG-specific black panel grille with vertical chrome struts, body-coloured front bumper, digital light headlamps, AMG lettering and Mercedes star badging. The bumper has the hallmark AMG A-wing design finished in gloss black with chrome trim. The side profile has AMG side sill panels in high-gloss black. It rides on 21- or 22-inch AMG light-alloy wheels in Aero or Heritage design. At the back, the sedan has a large rear spoiler with a body colored apron, and a diffuser with six longitudinal fins.
The cabin of the new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ electric sedan has several AMG features, offering sporty feel. It gets AMG seats with individual graphics and Artico man-made leather seat covers with Microcut microfibre and contrasting red stitching. It comes with MBUX Hyperscreen that has three different screens integrated into a glass cover.
