Maruti Suzuki & Tata To Launch Coupe SUVs In India

In a bid to regain lost market share, Maruti Suzuki is preparing a wide range of new SUVs for the Indian market. The company will launch a new mid-sized SUV, codenamed YFG and the new Brezza in 2022. The brand is also preparing a new 7-seater SUV, a pure electric SUV and a long wheelbase Jimny for the Indian market. Moreover, MSIL will also introduce a sub-4 meter SUV Coupe in the country in 2023.

Similarly, Tata Motors is also working on multiple new models for the domestic market. The homegrown automaker has showcased the new Curvv SUV Coupe concept, which will be launched in the next couple of years. Adding to it, the company will also introduce new variants and updates of its existing model range.

The new Tata SUV Coupe is based on the modified version of Nexon’s platform. The platform is flexible enough to accommodate different engine options including electric, petrol and diesel. It can also accommodate a dual motor setup, thus enabling to fit AWD (all-wheel drive) system.The company will first launch the electric version of the SUV Coupe.

The vehicle will receive a bigger battery pack and is expected to offer a range closer to 500km on a single charge. The production-ready Curvv petrol/diesel version will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun.

The company will introduce the new SUV Coupe, codenamed YTB in the country in 2023. The new model will arrive as a more premium alternative to the Vitara Brezza. It is likely to be based on Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform that underpins the Baleno, Ertiga and the Ciaz.

To be positioned above the Brezza, the new YTB Coupe SUV will rival the higher variants of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300 and the Tata Nexon. It will be sold through NEXA premium dealerships. It is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre K15C dualjet petrol engine with a stronger hybrid with a greater degree of electrification. This will help in achieving higher fuel efficiency.
