Maruti Suzuki Jimny & Fronx To Be Exported To Australia

Maruti Suzuki had revealed the five-door Jimny and Fronx crossover in the country at the 2023 Auto Expo. The company is already exporting the Grand Vitara to Latin America and Indonesia. It is now confirmed that the new Jimny LWB and the Fronx crossover will be launched in the Australian markets. The new models will be manufactured in India and exported to Australia.

The five-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be manufactured at the brand’s Gurgaon based plant, while the Fronx crossover will be produced at the Suzuki’s production plant in Gujarat. The 5-door Jimny has a 2,590mm wheelbase, which is 300mm longer than the 3-door model. The length has been increased by 300mm to create more space inside the cabin.

It comes with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox with 2WD-high, 4WD-high and 4WD-low modes. The SUV has an approach angle of 36°, a departure angle of 50°, and a break-over angle of 24°. It has a ground clearance of 210mm, which is greater than the Force Gurkha.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is basically a crossover, which will be sold through NEXA premium dealership network. The crossover is based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform, which underpins the Baleno hatchback. It is available with two engine options – a new 1.0L, 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbo petrol and a 1.2L, 4-cylinder Dualjet petrol.

Both motors have been benefited with the mild hybrid technology. The turbo unit is capable of producing 100bhp and 147.6Nm of torque, while the DualJet engine produces 90bhp and 113Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter with Boosterjet engine and an AMT unit with naturally-aspirated unit.
