Maruti Suzuki has launched a wide range of new models in the country in 2022. The company’s new range of cars have received an overwhelming response from car buyers. Due to supply chain constraints, MSIL now has pending orders of around 4.05 lakh units this month. The backlog could further increase as the newly introduced SUVs Jimny and Fronx have also received positive response from buyers.
Maruti Suzuki has received over 11,000 orders for Jimny lifestyle SUV and 4,000 orders for Fronx crossover. By the end of December 2022, Maruti Suzuki had pending customer orders of about 3.63 lakh vehicles, out of which about 1.19 lakh orders were for newly launched vehicles.
Compared to January 2022, Maruti Suzuki has reported an increase of 28% in inquiries and 16% increase in bookings in the same month this year. The rise in pending orders has further been escalated by the new Jimny and Fronx. MSIL is receiving close to 1,000 bookings for the Jimny per day and around 300 orders for the Fronx per day.
In the third quarter, Nov-Dec 2022, a shortage of electronic components impacted Maruti Suzuki’s production by about 46,000 vehicles. The company sold 15.76 lakh vehicles in 2022 as against 13.64 lakh units in 2021, reporting a year-on-year sales growth of 16 percent.
Maruti Suzuki has officially announced that the prices of the new Jimny and the Fronx crossover will be released in spring 2023. These two SUVs will be sold through NEXA premium dealerships. The Jimny will be powered by a 1.5L K15B petrol engine with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4×4 as standard. The Fronx will also mark the re-introduction of Suzuki’s 1.0L Boosterjet turbo petrol engine.
