Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch two brand new utility vehicles – the Fronx crossover and the Jimny lifestyle SUV in the country. Both SUVs will be sold through NEXA dealerships and are available for bookings. Interested buyers can book the Fronx and the Jimny online or at authorised dealerships by paying a sum of Rs 11,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
Maruti Suzuki is yet to announce the official launch dates for the new Fronx and the Jimny 4×4. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx will arrive first in the first half of April, most probably in the first week. On the other hand, the Jimny 5-door lifestyle SUV will go on sale by May 2023. MSIL claims that the both SUVs have received positive response from buyers. In fact, Maruti Suzuki has already dispatched the new SUVs to dealerships for customer preview.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is essentially the crossover version of the Baleno hatchback and is expected to cost around Rs 7 lakh and Rs 11 lakh. It will rival the likes of the Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger. The new Fronx crossover will be offered with two petrol engines – a 100bhp, 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 89bhp, 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol. Both powertrains are benefited with mild hybrid tech. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual as standard, a 5-speed AMT with naturally-aspirated unit and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with turbo petrol engine.
The five-door Suzuki Jimny is based on the rugged ladder-on-frame chassis. It is powered by a 1.5L K15B naturally-aspirated petrol engine with idle start/stop system for optimum fuel efficiency. It is capable of producing 105PS and 137Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. It comes with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox as standard.
