Maruti Suzuki Could Launch New Toyota Innova Hycross Based MPV

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV has recently launched two new compact SUVs based on Suzuki’s Global-C platform. While Maruti’s version is called the Grand Vitara, Toyota’s compact SUV is called the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Maruti Suzuki will also introduce a new crossover based on the Baleno hatchback in early next year. MSIL will also supply this crossover to Toyota and the latter’s version will also go on sale in early next year.

A new media report claims that Toyota is preparing an all-new C-segment MPV, which will be introduced this financial year. It will be the first cross badge Toyota vehicle being offered to MSIL (Maruti Suzuki India Limited). The report didn’t mention the name of the C-segment MPV, but we believe it could be the new Innova Hybrid.

Toyota is testing the new Innova hybrid, which is scheduled to make global debut in Indonesia in November 2022. It is expected to be launched in our market in early next year. Rumoured to be called the Toyota Innova Hycross, the new model will be sold alongside the existing Innova Crysta. The new model will come with significant changes in terms of underpinnings, engine specs and interior.

Instead of the ladder-on-frame chassis with RWD layout, the new Innova Hycross will be based on a new, monocoque platform with front wheel drive setup. The new model is reportedly to have a 2860mm long wheelbase, which is 100mm longer than the current MPV. Another big change is that the new Innova Hycross will receive a strong hybrid powertrain. The company won’t introduce the diesel version of the MPV.

Maruti Suzuki’s version is likely to receive some changes in terms of re-styled front and rear design, different alloys and new interior scheme. The new model will be manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi based plant. It will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0L petrol and a 2.0L petrol hybrid. The company could use the localised version of the THS II (Toyota Hybrid System II) that consists of a twin-motor setup for high ‘step-off’ torque and fuel efficiency.

If reports are to be believed, the new Innova Hycross will receive ADAS tech, panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, multi-colour ambient light, LED headlamp & stop lamp, under-floor storage, captain seat with Ottoman function, electronic parking brake and 360 degree.
