After introducing the new 5-door Jimny in India, Suzuki is now ready to introduce the lifestyle SUV in the South African markets. The production-spec Suzuki Jimny 5-door has made its official debut in South Africa. The SUV will be exported to the rainbow nation from our shores.
The Suzuki Jimny 5-door for South African market looks largely identical to the India-spec model, except for the one difference. The lifestyle SUV gets the same multi slatted grille, round-shaped LED headlamps and same sized alloy wheels. The African model gets a new colour option that’s not available in our market. It has a new green paint scheme, which looks similar to the colour offered on the Indian Army’s vehicles.
Not just the styling, the South African-spec Suzuki Jimny 5-door’s cabin looks identical to the one offered in our market. In terms of features, the SUV gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, a multi-info display, cruise control and power windows. For safety and security, the SUV gets 6 airbags, ESC (electronic stability control), ABS with EBD, a reversing camera and a rear parking sensors.
The South African model is powered by the same 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 105PS and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. The SUV is available with a four-wheel-drivetrain as standard. The Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system comes with a manual transfer case and low range gearbox with 2WD-high, 4WD-high and 4WD-low modes.
Built on the ladder-frame chassis, the 5-door Jimny has an approach angle of 36 degree, a departure angle of 47 degree and a ramp breakover angle of 24 degree. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny SUV’s ground clearance stands at 210mm and it has a turning radius of 5.7m.
