The 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny one of the biggest new product launches in the Indian automotive industry this year. As of now, the lifestyle off-road SUV doesn’t have any direct rival. Though, Force Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra have plan to foray into the segment with the 5-door versions of the Gurkha and Thar SUVs respectively. While the home-grown automaker confirmed that the 5-door Mahindra Thar will come in 2024, the 5-door Force Gurkha is expected to hit roads in the coming months.
A latest spy images of the Gurkha 5-door reveal some new interesting details. The SUV will be offered with multiple seating configurations including 5-seats, 6-seats and 7-seats. The 7-seater version, that recently captured in camera, will have two individual captain’s seats for the third row and a bench seat for the middle row.
The test mule misses out on a touchscreen infotainment system. Though, you can notice its different 4WD gear with a shift-on-the-fly 4WD knob positioned on the centre console. The 5-door Force Grukha will surely be longer and more spacious than its 3-door version. Its wheelbase is likely to be around 400mm longer than its sibling.
While the higher trims will get 18-inch alloy wheels with 255/60 R18 size tyres, the lower variants will get smaller steel wheels. There will also be a snorkel. Upfront, the lifestyle off-road SUV has squarish headlamps as we have seen in the Force CityLine MUV and two-slat grille borrowed from its 3-door version.
Engine bay of the 5-door Gurkha will feature the same 2.6L diesel engine sourced from Mercedes. The oil burner, which is sourced from its 3-door version, delivers power worth 91bhp and 250Nm of torque. For transmission duties, the SUV will have a 5-speed manual gearbox.
More information of its design, interior and features is expected to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
