We informed you earlier that Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch the new-gen Jimny mini off-roader in the Indian market. A new media report claims that Maruti Suzuki has imported multiple CKD kits of the Jimny into India. The report further claims that the shipments are awaiting customs clearance.
It is reported that Maruti Suzuki is planning to produce close to 5K units of the Jimny for the export markets. It is expected that the Indo-Japanese brand is readying a 5-door version of the Jimny for the Indian market. This model will be sold through Maruti’s premium NEXA dealership network.
Powering the new-gen Suzuki Jimny is a 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine that is capable of producing 100bhp of power and 130Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV gets Suzuki’s advanced 4X4 – AllGrip system.
We believe that the 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny could be launched as the new-gen Maruti Gypsy. The company had showcased the 3-door version of the SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. The 5-door Maruti Gypsy will offer larger cabin and addition of rear doors will make this SUV more suitable for the family buyers. The SUV will ride on longer wheelbase, and will have stretched dimensions.
The new-gen Suzuki Jimny is a huge hit overseas. In fact, the SUV is sold out for 2020 in Australia and some other international markets. The new model is equipped with new and modern features like a smartplay infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, air-conditioning, keyless entry, engine start-stop button and automatic headlamps.
