Upcoming Kia Sonet Compact SUV – New Details Emerge

Kia Sonet sub-4 meter SUV from the South Korean carmaker is ready to make its global debut in India on 7th August, 2020. We have seen multiple spy pictures of the near production/final model of the vehicle ahead of its global unveiling. More recently, the Sonet was seen during ad shoot giving us a glimpse of the production model’s face. Upfront, the compact SUV features Kia’s signature Tiger nose grille, LED headlamps with LED DRLs, sporty bumper and silver skid plate.

Features such as dual-tone (Red and Black) paint scheme with silver roof rails, dual-tone alloy wheels with red inserts, blacked out ORVMs hint that the spotted model was the top-end GT Line variant. Similar to the Seltos, the Kia Sonet model lineup is likely to come in two formats – HT Line and GT Line. There might be two sportier GT Line variants – GTX and GTX Plus.

The upcoming Sonet compact SUV will be one of the most feature packed cars in its segment. Major highlight will be the massive 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other interesting bits will include Kia’s UVO in-car connectivity suite, Bose sound system, automatic climate control, wireless charging, an electric sunroof, keyless entry and many more. The carmaker will offer three engines and four gearboxes on the Sonet model lineup, borrowed from the Hyundai Venue. The petrol variant will use a 1.2L naturally aspirated motor making 82bhp with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The diesel model will derive power from a 1.5L turbo motor pushing out 99bhp with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. The 118bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol engine will also be offer. It can be had either with an iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) gearbox or a 7-speed DCT automatic unit. Official prices of the Kia Sonet will be announced sometime in September, 2020. Deliveries are likely to begin soon after the price announcement.
