Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder To Get ADAS – Key Details

In the recent times, we have seen many automakers introduced advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) equipped vehicles in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki is also reportedly planning to introduce the ADAS-equipped Grand Vitara mid-sized SUV. The Maruti Grand Vitara with ADAS is expected to be launched sometime in the first quarter of the next financial year (that’s April-June 2024).

The ADAS tech is most likely to be offered on the top-end trims of the Smart Hybrid & Strong Hybrid variants of the SUV. The new SUV will feature level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System. Not just the Grand Vitara, the Toyota Hyryder is also likely to receive ADAS tech. The Grand Vitara range starts at Rs 10.70 lakh, which goes up to Rs 19.20 lakh.

The ADAS tech features will include autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, auto high beam and others. The ADAS-equipped Grand Vitara and the Hyryder will be built by Toyota Kirloskar Motor, which is already making the Suzuki Grand Vitara as part of MSIL parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation’s collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation.

The new Grand Vitara with ADAS will be positioned against the Kia Seltos and the Honda Elevate, which are also available with ADAS tech. Moreover, the updated Hyundai Creta with ADAS tech will be launched in the country in the first quarter of 2024. The report claims that Maruti Suzuki is already in talks with ICAT (International Centre For Automotive Technology) for test runs at the Manesar track. The company is aiming to position the ADAS-equipped Grand Vitara as an ultra-safe vehicle for the masses.

The report reveals that Maruti Suzuki was planning to introduce the third quarter of this calendar. However, Toyota is facing a shortage of semiconductors and other components. The company is working on streamlining the whole process and has placed an order for key electronic components like radars, sensors and camera.

Based on Suzuki’s Global C Platform, the Grand Vitara is available with two engine options – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder K15C smart hybrid petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycle TNGA petrol. The mild hybrid setup offers 103bhp and 136Nm of torque, and is offered with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. This model also comes with the optional Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD system.

The strong hybrid powertrain returns a claimed power of 92bhp and 122Nm of torque. The engine is paired to an AC synchronous motor that’s good for 79bhp and 141Nm. The combined power output stands at 115bhp.  With a 6-speed e-CVT gearbox, the Maruti Grand Vitara strong hybrid offers fuel economy of 28kmpl.
