Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, the new global flagship SUV of the Indo-Japanese automaker, made its debut a few days ago. Official bookings for the model were commenced on 11th July at a token sum of Rs 11,000. Since that day, the carmaker received over 13,000 pre-orders for its new mid-size SUV. Interestingly, the strong hybrid (Intelligent Electric Hybrid) is high in-demand with over 7,000 bookings. One must note that the strong hybrid powertrain will be available only on the Zeta+ and Alpha+ variants.
Both trims have a 1.5L, 3-cylinder petrol engine paired with Toyota’s strong hybrid tech. The setup includes a 0.76kW lithium-ion battery pack powering an electric motor that transmits power to the front wheels via an e-CVT gearbox. It delivers a claimed power of 92bhp and 122Nm of torque. The carmaker says that the Maruti Grand Vitara strong hybrid offers fuel efficiency of 27.97kmpl. This makes it India’s most fuel efficient SUV.
The SUV model lineup will also be made available with a 1.5L K15C mild hybrid powertrain making 103bhp and 117Nm. It can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters and Suzuki’s All-Grip AWD technology. Maruti Suzuki claims that the Grand Vitara mild hybrid model with 2WD manual, 2WD automatic and AllGrip AWD combo offers 21.11kmpl, 20.58lmpl and 19.38kmpl respectively. Maruti Suzuki’s new SUV is also high on features and safety technology. The carmaker has equipped it with a 9.0-inch SmarPlay Pro+ infotainment system, Arkamys sound system, a 7.0-inch fully digital instrument cluster, Head-Up Display, a 360 degree camera, wireless charger, a panoramic sunroof, all-black interior with gold accents (only on the top-end Zeta+ trim), leatherette seats, leatherette steering wheel, hill descent control, 6 airbags, electronic stability program, tyre pressure monitor, hill hold assist, all-wheel disc brakes and more.
