Maruti Suzuki has recently unveiled two new SUVs at the 2023 Auto Expo – Jimny and Fronx. Bookings are underway for both, and their launches are imminent. As we’ve already compared the Jimny with its key rival – the Mahindra Thar, this comparison is for the Fronx, which could be seen as a potential rival to Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.

- The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is longer and wider, and have the biggest wheelbase compared to both the cousin SUVs mentioned here.
- The Renault Kiger is the tallest among all. It also has the biggest boot space.

– All the models are equipped with a naturally aspirated petrol and a turbocharged petrol engine. However, the Magnite and Kiger get a smaller 1.0-litre naturally aspirated unit.
– The Magnite doesn’t get an automatic transmission option with the naturally aspirated mill.
– The Maruti Suzuki Fronx delivers higher output than the Magnite/Kiger’s naturally aspirated engines.
– Fronx’s turbocharged engine makes the same amount of power as the other two models, but the torque output is lesser.

- Each of these sub-4m offerings looks generous and includes features that are adequate for the categories in which they fall.
- There are several features common in all of these compact SUVs, including LED headlamps with LED DRLs, alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple Carplay & Android Auto, auto climate control, rear AC vents, keyless entry with engine start/stop button, cruise control, multi-function steering wheel, 60:40 rear split seat, ISOFIX child seat mounts, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with a camera, etc.
- The Maruti Suzuki Fronx also gets a wireless smartphone charger, a heads-up display (HUD), auto-dimming IRVM, connected car tech with OTA updates support, a 360-degree camera, paddle shifters and up to 6 airbags over these aforementioned SUVs.
- As opposed to the Magnite, the Renault SUV gets features such as a PM 2.5 AC filter, airbags, multiple driving modes, a cooled glovebox, a sliding storage console, and interior ambient lighting.
- Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Renault Kiger also come equipped with ARKAMYS sound systems, whereas the Nissan Magnite gets a premium JBL system but as an option. Additionally, Nissan Magnite boasts connected car technology, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a 360-degree camera over Kiger, helping it to stand out from the competition.
