Maruti Alto K10 VXI+ vs Celerio ZXI – Which Variant Should You Buy?

Since its inception in October 2010, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 remains the undisputed champ in the mass-market car segment. And, after being absent from the Indian market for two years, the Alto K10 is now back in a new avatar, with prices ranging between Rs 3.99 to Rs 5.83 lakh (ex-showroom).

At this price point, its range-topping VXI+ variant is just Rs 61,000 more affordable than the ZXI variant of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. So, should you raise your budget to get the Celerio? Let’s try to find the answer.

Engine Specification

Both the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Celerio are powered by the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, DualJet petrol engine that makes 67PS of maximum power and 89Nm of peak torque. Transmission options for both hatchbacks are also the same (5-speed MT & AMT). However, the Celerio additionally gets an idle start/stop system that makes it 1.78kmpl more fuel efficient than the Alto. For a clear picture, the Alto K10 claims a fuel efficiency of up to 24.39kmpl with manual and 24.90kmpl with AMT, whereas the Celerio is claimed to return up to 26.68kmpl. Besides, Maruti also offers the Celerio with a factory-fitted CNG kit with a fuel efficiency of 35.60kmpl.

Verdict: There is hardly anything left to say after this comparison. For the price premium of Rs 61,000, the Maruti Celerio ZXI seems a worthy upgrade as it has a higher fuel efficiency, more boot & cabin space, and a plethora of additional convenience & comfort features over the Alto K10’s top-spec VXI+ variant. All these will certainly enhance your overall experience with the car. However, Alto’s brand value is the only thing that makes it superior to Celerio. But it won’t affect you much if you don’t change your car frequently.
