Mahindra & Mahindra aims to expand its electric product lineup in the coming years. The automaker has already showcased the eKUV100 and XUV300 in their near-production avatars at the 2020 Auto Expo. While the former is likely to arrive early next year, the latter will see a release towards the end of 2022 or early 2023. The Mahindra eKUV100 is currently in testing phase and caught on camera multiple times. It will be the most affordable electric car from the home-grown automaker in the country. In fact, it could be the cheapest EV in India. The electric micro SUV will be priced below Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
The final production version of the eKUV100 will feature a 40kW electric motor and a 15.9kWh lithium-ion battery. The electric motor will deliver a peak power of 53bhp and 120Nm of torque. For performing transmission duties, there will be a single-speed gearbox. The Mahindra eKUV100 range will be around 150kmph. The micro EV will support both standard power socket charging and fast charging. Its battery pack can be juiced up to 80 percent in just 55 minutes via fast charger.
Visually, the Mahindra eKUV100 electric SUV will appear slightly different from the standard model. Similar to the concept, the final version might carry newly-designed headlamps and taillamps. It will have a closed-off front grille along with the + and – lettering on the tailgate. The charging ports will be mounted on the front fender. The lower variants will feature fender mounted turn indicators, black door handles and steel rims.
Talking about the upcoming Mahindra products, the new-generation Scorpio will be the next big launch from the home-grown automaker in the country. Slated to arrive in early 2022, the SUV will come with improved design, upmarket interior and more powerful engine setup. Mahindra’s popular Bolero and XUV500 SUV will also witness a generation change in coming years.
