Mahindra XUV900 To Get Powerful 210bhp Diesel Engine – Report

According to a fresh media report, the upcoming Mahindra XUV900 Coupe-SUV (codenamed W620) might come with the brand’s twin-scroll turbo mHawk diesel engine. The oil burner is estimated to deliver power around 210bhp. The same motor is likely to power the new Mahindra XUV700 facelift that might arrive in the next couple of years. At present, the XUV700 SUV comes with the segment’s most powerful 200bhp, 2.0L, 4-cylinder mStallion turbo petrol and 185bhp, 2.2L, 4-cylinder mHawk diesel engine options.

Rumour has it that the XUV900’s twin-scroll turbocharged mHawk motor could be the last generation of diesel engines developed by the company. Just so you know, Mahindra & Mahindra plans to focus on petrol and electric powertrains and discontinue diesel powertrains in future. Transmissions might also be borrowed from the XUV700 – i.e. 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The AWD (all-wheel drive) system could be reserved for the higher trims.

Besides the diesel engine, the new Mahindra Coupe-SUV will share its underpinning with the XUV700. It will be the new flagship SUV of the company that will be designed at Mahindra Automotive Design Europe (M.A.D.E) studio in Europe. As of now, details are scanty. Though, we expect it to share some of its interior features with the XUV700 including the dual screen setup, connected car technology and more.

Some of its design elements could be inspired by the Mahindra XUV500 Aero concept that was first previewed at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. Its body panels will be sourced from the XUV700. The Mahindra XUV900 might be the brand’s first SUV to be designed under the leadership of Pratap Bose.

The new Mahindra XUV900 is reported to arrive sometime in 2024. Here, it will be positioned against the cars like Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and BMW X6. Price of the new Mahindra Coupe-SUV is likely to be around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
