Mahindra has teased 3 new electric SUV concepts, which are designed by the UK based Mahindra Advance Design Europe (MADE) division headed by Pratap Bose. Dubbed as the ‘Born Electric Vision’, these 3 new electric SUV concepts will make global debut in July 2022.
The three models reveal in the teaser video shows a compact SUV, a mid-sized SUV and an all-new SUV Coupe. These new models will be based on a new, bespoke ‘Born Electric’ EV platform.
It is expected that the new Coupe SUV concept will preview the brand’s upcoming XUV900 SUV Coupe. Set to be the brand’s flagship model, the new SUV Coupe will be positioned above the electrified version of the XUV700. It is expected that the new XUV900 will be offered with multiple powertrains including petrol, diesel and electric.
The ICE model is likely to share the platform and mechanics with the new XUV700 SUV. The 4-door SUV Coupe is likely to share the front fenders, hood & front doors with the smaller sibling. The vehicle could also share the cabin and features; however, it will be more premium than the XUV700.
Previous reports suggest that the Mahindra XUV900 will use the brand’s twin-scroll turbo mHawk diesel engine, which is expected to produce around 210bhp. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor. The AWD (all-wheel-drive) system could be reserved fro the higher trims. The petrol version is likely to get the 200bhp, 2.0L turbocharged engine with manual and automatic gearbox options.
The production version of the Mahindra XUV900 SUV Coupe is likely to arrive in 2024. The company is also developing the all-electric XUV700 and the new XUV500. The new XUV500 will arrive as a mid-sized SUV, which will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, MG Astor and the Skoda Kushaq.
