The Mahindra XUV700, a segment disruptor in the Indian automotive market, has achieved a remarkable sales milestone of 1 lakh units within just two years of its launch in August 2021. This makes it the fastest-selling Mahindra SUV to reach such a feat. To further bolster its sales, Mahindra is planning to expand the XUV700 model lineup with five new variants, including a mid-spec variant and three higher trims. As part of this expansion, certain petrol and diesel variants might be discontinued to make way for new automatic and AWD variants.
Out of the five new variants, four are expected to be available for purchase during this year’s festive season. The SUV lineup is anticipated to include a new AX5 L variant, positioned between the AX7 and AX7 L variants. Additionally, three other variants, possibly named AX7 with a new suffix, AX9, and AX9 L, will be positioned above the AX7 variant.
Moreover, recent sightings of the Mahindra XUV700 6-seater version suggest that the automaker is preparing to challenge the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus. The 6-seater version of the SUV will feature individual captain seats for the second row, while its overall design, features, and powertrains are expected to be similar to the regular 7-seater version. Currently, the XUV700 is available with 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L diesel engine options. The 6-seater variant is likely to be based on the top trims, offering high-end diesel variants and the AWD system.
Additionally, Mahindra & Mahindra may introduce some changes to the XUV700’s feature list. Although there is no official confirmation, reports suggest that the SUV might come with a powered tailgate, rear LED strip, sliding second row, powered IRVM (Internal Rear View Mirror), ventilated front and rear seats, and updated connected apps.
