Mahindra XUV500 Diesel To Get More Power Before Generation Change

Recently, the current-generation Mahindra XUV500 has been spotted testing with heavy camouflage near the carmaker’s Pune based facility. According to a fresh media report, the SUV might get a minor update before the generation change that’s due for the early next year. The updated XUV500 is likely to receive a more powerful version of the existing 2.2L, 4-cylinder mHawk diesel engine. Read – Mahindra TUV300, TUV300 Plus Facelift Coming Soon

While the existing oil burner delivers 153bhp with 360Nm of torque, the updated motor might offer power around 180bhp. The XUV500 will receive the new 2.0L mStallion turbocharged petrol engine with the generation change. The new gasoline unit will be tuned for generating power worth 190bhp against 380Nm of torque. The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will also come with both manual and automatic gearbox options.

Design and styling of the updated Mahindra XUV500 will remain unchanged. The spotted test mule carries the same headlamps, alloy wheels and taillamps along with blacked-out pillars. No changes are likely to be made to its interior. At present, the XUV500 comes in four trims priced between Rs 13.57 lakh – Rs 19.30 lakh (all, ex-showroom). Prices of the new model with updated diesel engine are likely to be less or more similar to the current model.

Reports suggest that the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will come with the ASAD (Advanced Driver Assistance System). If it happens, the XUV500 will become the first Mahindra vehicle to offer the level 1 autonomous technology. The second-generation model will also get dual-tone interior with a flat bottom steering wheel with mounted controls and Mercedes-Benz inspired single-piece wide display. One of them will work as a touchscreen infotainment unit and the one as an instrument panel.

With the generation change, the XUV500 will switch to a new front-wheel-drive monocoque platform that’s compatible to different body styles and engines. The same architecture will also be used for the upcoming Ford C-SUV. The SUV will be offered with two seating configurations – 6 and 7-seats.
