The adverse impact of the semiconductor chips’ shortage is getting evident across the global. Car manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra have already cut down their production by a big margin and they fear that might persist for a few more months. Despite odds, automakers registered a decent sales growth in August 2021.
Talking about Mahindra & Mahindra, the home-grown SUV manufacturer managed to sell a total of 15,786 units last month against 13,407 units during the same period previous year. It recorded 18% sales growth. With total sales of 5,861 units, the Mahindra XUV300 emerged as the brand’s top-selling SUV in August 2021.
The Mahindra Thar was the second top-selling model with sales of 3,493 units, followed by the Bolero with 3,218 units and Scorpio with 2,606 units. The Mahindra XUV500 recorded sales of 181 units as opposed to 919 units of the same month last year, accounting 58% sales decline.
The 5-seater XUV500 will soon be replaced with the newly-launched Mahindra XUV700 SUV. The latter has been offered in 4 variants with both petrol and diesel engine options priced from Rs 11.99 lakh onwards. The Pune-based SUV maker sold 181 units of the Marazzo MPV and 42 units of the Alturas G4 SUV. The KUV100 mini SUV was the least selling Mahindra model with sales of only 2 units. The carmaker confirmed that the XUV300, Thar and the newly-launched Bolero pickup have been gathering impressive booking numbers.
The company will soon commence official bookings and deliveries of the new Mahindra XUV700. It’s ready to launch the new-generation Mahindra Scorpio in early 2022. The SUV will come with improved styling and upmarket and well-equipped interior along with a more powerful engine setup. The carmaker will also roll out its two new electric vehicles sometime next year – e-KUV100 and e-XUV300.
